Reality Check + A Dose of Optimism

Ever read a text and immediately thought someone was mad at you because they didn’t use an exclamation point or add an emoji?

Yeah, same.

That’s where reality testing comes in—a core part of emotional intelligence. It’s the ability to see situations as they actually are, not as our emotions or assumptions paint them.

Our brains? Not always reliable narrators. About 80% of our thoughts are negative, biased, and repetitive. Which means, if we don’t pause to reality check, we can end up reacting to a story that’s not even true.

This week’s podcast is all about how to stop spinning and start separating facts from fiction—plus how optimism (another EQ trait) is the perfect counterbalance. Because we don’t want toxic positivity—we want realistic optimism: the belief that even when things are hard, they can still turn out okay.

Here's how you do it:

  1. Ask yourself: “What else could be true?”

  2. Check your story with someone who brings calm, not chaos.

  3. Flip your brain to optimism: It helps us move from fear to possibility, and from assumption to action.

You are not your thoughts. You are how you choose to respond to them.

Watch on YouTube OR Stream on a device–It’s short, real, and a must-hear if your brain’s been playing tricks on you lately.

Stay real. Stay optimistic. Be who you came to be.

xoxo, Tara
