Care About Their Personal Goals, Too.
I have kept this note from one of my former sales reps for more than 19 years.
He wrote:
“I always knew you cared about us personally and professionally, but that really made an impact on me.”
What made the biggest impression on him wasn’t a sales strategy, a team meeting, or a professional development plan.
It was that I asked my team members to share their personal goals... and then I remembered them, encouraged them, and followed up.
Long before I called them Butterfly Goals™, I believed great leaders cared about the whole person, not just the employee.
That is The Butterfly Goal Effect™.
Just like the butterfly effect, one small action can create ripples far beyond the original moment.
When we show people we care about their personal growth as much as their professional output, it changes how they show up.
... They become more engaged.
... They contribute more ideas.
... Innovation increases.
... Camaraderie grows.
And the entire culture becomes stronger.
Honestly, it will do more for your culture than another pizza party ever could.
So, here’s your Tuesday Tip (a day late...)
Ask someone you lead about a goal that has nothing to do with work.
Then remember it.
Check in on it.
Help them believe it’s possible.
That small act of leadership may create a ripple effect that lasts far longer than you’ll ever know.
This note is proof.
