It’s Gonna Be May… and May Is May-ing

If your calendar looks a little… aggressive right now… You’re not alone. May is one of the busiest months of the year, and I am feeling it.

I’m actually not traveling for work this month, which almost never happens. Not because I didn’t have opportunities… But because every single one conflicted with something that matters deeply to me right now. Saying no to gigs is not easy for me as I LOVE what I do (and let’s be real it’s how I make my income). BUT this month is PACKED with things that are WAY more important than work:

  • Graduation

  • State Baseball

  • State Track

  • My niece’s wedding

  • End-of-year parties

  • And yes… we are hosting a Kentucky Derby + graduation party for 100+ people this weekend at our house. Scott is whipping up some amazing mint juleps, we’ll have betting, food, and fun. It’s going to be an EPIC party. And you bet your horses I have the perfect dress and fascinator. Lol #priorities

And since my kids go to a Catholic school… Graduation isn’t just a one-night event. It’s multiple masses, celebrations, and traditions. We call it the “Catholic Approach”… And honestly? I’ll give it to the Catholics… they know how to make a celebration truly special, AND they know how to throw a party.

But here’s what I know to be true: It’s not just what’s on our calendar that overwhelms us… It’s how we’re thinking about it. We get into our heads and get so dang stressed out we can’t enjoy what is an AMAZING time in our life!!

So… if May is feeling like a lot right now, here are a few ways to move through it with a little more ease (and a lot more intention):

1. Reality Test the Overwhelm

Before you spiral… Look at what’s on the calendar AND make a solid plan. Because often, the overwhelm we feel is coming more from our thoughts than from reality.

When you see it clearly, you can:

  • Plan better

  • Prioritize what matters

  • And stop carrying things that aren’t even real yet

2. If You’re Hosting… PRO-TIP

Let me save you some time right now: Don’t over-clean your house, and please don’t clean your floors before the party. They will only get dirtier. And I promise you… No one is walking in thinking, “Wow, incredible baseboards.” They’re there for:

  • The people

  • The connection

  • The experience

… Not your floors.

3. Take Things Off Your Calendar Now

Give yourself permission to edit. Not everything needs to stay.

Ask:

  • Does this actually matter?

  • Is this aligned with what I want this month to feel like?

If not… it’s okay to let it go or schedule it for June.

4. Stay Mindful of You

Busy doesn’t mean you disappear. You don’t have to:

  • Derail your workouts

  • Abandon your nutrition

  • Run yourself into the ground

This is where emotional intelligence shows up in real life. Make yourself a priority too. And when you can rest… Rest without guilt.

5. Be Present When It Matters Most

This is the big one. HAVE FUN. ENJOY YOURSELF. Because what we’ll remember about this season… Isn’t how busy we were.

It’s:

  • The graduation moments

  • The games

  • The celebrations

  • The people

Don’t miss it because you’re mentally stuck in the next thing or worrying about your damn floors. Be where your feet are – you can clean the floors later.

Final Thought:

May will always be full. But full doesn’t have to mean frantic. You get to choose how you show up inside of it. And honestly – how fortunate that you have so much to celebrate in your life!

Be Who You Came to Be,

Tara

PS. If you got through this entire email without singing NSYNC's “It’s Gonna Be Me” (May), congratulations!!
