You're Not Behind.You're Becoming.
Every time I step into a new goal, there’s a familiar moment that shows up. And it shows up EVERY DANG TIME!
About three weeks in, I start wondering why I’m not seeing results as fast as I think I should. This used to happen to me constantly with health and wellness routines. I’d be consistent, disciplined, and doing all the “right” things ...yet nothing seemed to be changing.
What I’ve learned over time is this:
For me, real fitness and wellness changes/results don’t show up at three weeks. They show up closer to six.
And that gap... it’s usually where we second-guess EVERYTHING. It’s where we start telling ourselves we’re behind… or that what we’re doing isn’t working. And so many times it’s in this gap that we give up. Please – don’t give up!!
There’s a powerful story that explains why this season feels so uncomfortable... because growth often happens long before there’s anything to show for it. It’s the story of the Chinese bamboo tree…
For the first four years after it’s planted, there’s no visible growth above ground. Yet beneath the surface, the bamboo is building an extensive root system. Then, in the fifth year, it suddenly shoots up - sometimes reaching 90 feet in just six weeks. That rapid growth is only possible because of the unseen work done long before anyone could see results.
Here’s a short video that explains the Chinese bamboo tree story beautifully:
This is exactly how Butterfly Goals work.
Butterfly Goals aren’t designed for instant validation or quick wins. They require you to stay committed while you’re still becoming… while the work is happening beneath the surface. Long before the results show up, the roots are forming.
This is where emotional intelligence matters. Optimism helps us trust the process before the payoff appears. Self-regard reminds us that slow progress is not a reflection of our worth or capability. And self-actualization is choosing to stay aligned with who we’re becoming, even when there’s no visible proof yet.
When You’re Not Seeing Results, Do These 3 Things
1. Make sure you’re tracking the right things.
If the only thing you’re measuring is the outcome, you’ll miss the progress. The scale might not move ...but your clothes fit better.
Ask yourself: What other evidence tells me this is working?
Alignment, confidence, habits, and consistency all count.
2. Celebrate consistency instead of searching for results.
Results are delayed. Showing up is immediate.
At the end of the day, ask one simple question:
Did I show-up in alignment with who I’m becoming?
If the answer is yes, that’s progress.
3. Borrow belief when yours gets shaky.
Find the person who believes in you beyond reason ...the one who sees who you’re becoming before it’s obvious. That’s why Butterfly Goals are never meant to be done alone.
And if you don’t have that person right now, email me. I’ll believe in you enough for the both of us. I GOT YOU!
If you’re in a season that feels slow, quiet, or invisible…
You’re not behind.
You’re building roots.
And Butterfly Goals remind us of this truth:
Becoming always comes before being seen.
