Resolution is Found in Calm
I travel a lot, and for the most part, I rarely run into lengthy delays or cancellations that result in an overnight stay.
But this past summer, my luck ran out. Flights were cancelled, people were exhausted, and frustration was running high. At the gate, several passengers were unloading on the attendant - yelling, demanding answers, insisting she “fix it now.”
Look, I get it - I was upset too. No one wants to be stranded. But I also knew something those passengers didn’t: intensity and force weren’t going to solve anything.
That gate attendant didn’t control the weather, the aircraft, or the schedules. What she could do was help us rebook, reroute, and move forward. And the only way she could do that effectively was in an environment of calm, not chaos.
Here’s the truth:
If you’re angry or upset, it’s best to wait until you’re calm before trying to fix anything. When we’re heated, we react emotionally. When we’re calm, we respond intentionally. That’s where resolution is found.
EQ Tip:
Calm doesn’t mean you’re passive - it means you’re powerful. The next time you feel your temperature rising, pause, breathe, and wait. Once you’ve shifted back into calm, you’ll find the clarity, confidence, and composure to actually solve the problem.
Because yelling at a gate agent won’t get you to your destination faster - but calm just might.
